Farm HistoryMillstone Mountain Farm is located in southern Monroe County on the western end of “South Ridge” a ridgeline in the upper Kickapoo Valley ridge country which is part of the “Ocooch Mountains” otherwise known as the “driftless area” of western Wisconsin. The area is composed of hills and valleys, forests and fields, countless springs and streams, without a doubt some of the most beautiful scenery Wisconsin has to offer. The farm was built by the Dippen family in 2001 on the remains of an old family dairy farm. Over the next few years the house and outbuildings were built, a commercial cowherd was bought and sold, additional land was purchased, and the first 16 purebred Black Angus cows which are the foundation of the farm’s registered Black Angus herd arrived. Since the beginning the farm has been managed with the best interests of the animal, the environment, and the consumer in mind. The animals graze and eat what and when choose and grow at their own pace without any of the synthetic hormones, steroids, or supplements that are part of today’s commercial agriculture industry. There has never been any chemical pesticide, herbicide, or fertilizer used on the farm since it has belonged to the Dippen family. The old crop fields have been converted to grass pastures bordered by woodlands. The landscape is beginning to develop into a peaceful coexistence between the hand of man and nature.
